Dairy cattle breeding programme in Brazil development of the Brazilian milking hybrid (MLB)

ICAR Technical Series No 3 The MLB programme (Portuguese standing for Brazilian Milking Hybrid) is described below. This was a research and development programme conducted by the National Dairy Cattle Research Centre of the Federal Research Organisation (EMBRAPA) with the assistance of the FAO/UNDP Project BRA/79/010. Its main objective was to obtain experimental information to design selection criteria for new hybrid cattle breeds, combining dairy, reproduction, growth and adaptation traits, while developing cattle suitable for the dairy production systems of the Brazilian Tropics.
